“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

This Bible verse graced the back of the official mission trip t-shirts that the kids design each year. It was their mantra as they worked to spread
Christ’s love to the world by repairing and improving homes of people in need.

I think this verse also speaks to all of us. We all have been blessed with gifts. These gifts include anything we are physically capable of doing. Our Lord wants us to use these gifts and abilities in the service of others and one important way we do that is through the ministries of this church. Making the world a better place and improving the lives of others and growing God’s Kingdom are all at the heart of our mission.

In the coming months, all of us will have many opportunities to serve in new ways. Sunday School will need teachers, the choir will need voices, Youth Club, UMW, the Pre-School and the MYF will need volunteers and participants. The landscaping needs done and our church is in constant need of repair. On top of that, the Nominating Committee will soon be looking for people to fill out the various committees and ministries. Looking a little further out, 2018 is our Bicentennial and we are planning a lot of wonderful, Spirit-filled events. But we will need people to make all of this happen.

Please take some time to pray and seriously consider how God wants you to incorporate your talents and abilities into the mission and ministry of this congregation. I know that the world pulls us away from the church with events and sports and school activities, but the work of this congregation is part of the Kingdom of God. The gifts that serve us so well in secular activities should also be put to use for the greater good of all humankind. Once again, please pray and ask God how you can serve.

Blessings to all of you,

Pastor Matt

The start of Youth Club is just around the corner. Wednesday, September 27, is the big kick off for our 28th year! All children in grades K-8 are welcome to join our family circle. We meet on Wednesdays from 4:15 to 7:15 p.m. for Bible Study, Worship, Activities, and Family Time, which includes a shared meal. Methodist Youth Fellowship

The MYF is a Christian fellowship open to all kids from 7th grade up. Their purpose is to have fun while bringing the light of Christ to the world. Their primary focus is a week long home repair mission trip held during the summer.

You can see from the photos of the mission trip that the kids did a lot of valuable work and shared God’s love and grace with many people. They also had a great time.

For the remainder of the summer, the MYF is hosting informal out-door get-togethers with kickball, a camp fire, s'mores, and a little spiritual type discussion. The next one will be August 19 with kickball at 7 p.m. and the fire, food and discussion at 8 p.m. All are welcome!

United Methodist Women

Our summer is almost over. During the summer months the United Methodist Women in our church do not formally meet, but a few women did attend the annual Mission U held at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. This is a 1 to 3 day program that informs us of news and topics concerning the women in the Methodist Church. Three women from our unit attended a previewed topics of study for the upcoming year. These included “Living as a Covenant Community and Missionary Conferences with in the United Methodist Church”. It gives us a sense of fulfillment to visit with other women of nearby churches and discuss similar concerns and topics.

This Fall we will be preparing for the Election Day fund raiser, Soup-N-Things. Our Fall District meeting will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Sat-urday, September 16th. And our next meeting will be held Wednesday, September 6th, at 10 AM in the courtyard room. Please mark your calendar and consider attending.

As we prepare for the finish of 2017, let us pray for a meaningful presence in our church, and carry us safely on, as the United Methodist Women continue to celebrate 150 years in service to women, youth and children. Please consider being a part of our journey as we support those who are part of the Covenant Community surrounding us.

Marcia L. Adamczyk, UMW President

Worship Committee Notes (in brief)

Due to the more relaxed schedule during the summer, WC notes are brief.
Calendar wise, upcoming Communion Sundays are August 6th and September 3rd. The Liturgical season kick-off Sunday is September 10th. Some new choir music has been ordered and rehearsals begin Thursday, September 7th. The Baldwin Wallace Brass will play for the
August 27th service, and the Wonnacotts will be hosting a special coffee hour following the service for the church family to share in their 50th wedding anniversary.

Two sanctuary microphones-choir #2 and the pulpit-were replaced. A huge thank you to the United Methodist Women who have generously paid to have all choir robes and stoles cleaned.

The next worship committee meeting will be held on August 13th, following the worship service.

Wandering Remote Control Units

Above you see a picture of one of the remote controls for our air conditioning system in the Education Wing. Recently, these romotes have begun to wander around the building and have become difficult to locate.

To remedy this problem, the Trustees have mounted the remotes on the walls and labelled each one with it’s assigned location. The locations are the office, the Courtyard Room, and the Fellowship Hall.

If you use one of these remote controls, please replace it in the correct wall-mounted holder. Thanks to all of you for your cooperation.

Please Help Us Know...when people are in the hospital. Over the last several years, it has become increasingly more difficult for churches to obtain information about their members who are patients in the hospital. This has become even more difficult as all hospitals have begun implementing the regulations of HIPPA (Health Information Portability and Protection Act). This was enacted by Congress to protect the confidentiality and privacy of patients. This has changed things for the Spiritual Care of patients. Even if someone from the hospital asks about your church affiliation, or asks if you would like the pastor notified - it does not mean that the church will be contacted. If you would like the pastor or church to know that you are
